Institutional investor
A large financial organisation (such as a superannuation/pension fund, mutual fund, insurance company, or sovereign wealth fund) that pools and invests massive blocks of capital into publicly listed companies. Because of their concentrated equity ownership and significant voting blocs at AGMs, institutional investors heavily influence corporate governance trends and executive pay structures, frequently utilising proxy advisors to guide their voting mandates.
